Whose history gets displayed?

The Fitzwilliam Museum wanted to promote two exhibitions exploring family and Britain's colonial past.

The challenge wasn't simply getting people through the doors.

It was acknowledging that museums are part of the story they're telling.

Telling the stories behind the collection

Rather than treating the exhibitions in isolation, the campaign looked at the histories that made the collection possible.

Across film, social, print and out-of-home, the work used objects from the exhibitions as a way in, to overlooked stories of resistance, family and survival, giving greater context to communities that have too often been reduced to footnotes.
